New Smyrna Beach is Daytona without the Crowds
New Smyrna Beach (NSB) is south of Daytona, but it has a great reputation of good surf and large sandy shores. We love being able to drive and park on the beach, stroll to nearby restaurants, enjoy the nice sand and clean beach, and simply hang out and have a wonderful time! It might become crowded in warmer months, so get early and hit the waves!
With its 13.2 miles of coastline, the actual city is roughly 19.5 square miles in size. The next 22 miles of the Canaveral National Seashore Park seamlessly merge with Turtle Mound and the southernmost point of A1A.

Cons of New Smyrna Beach
It’s not all good at New Smyrna Beach, there are some downsides to this little slice of paradise. Here are a few:
- Parking Price: Whether you park for one hour or ten, it costs $20 to use the lot.
- Shared People/car access: There are no steps leading to the beach, so you must walk down the ramp with the cars.
- Not many lifeguards: There aren’t many lifeguards on duty, so swimming and beach areas around them grow congested.
- Be careful of cars driving on the beach: If you take your kids to the car-allowed portion of the beach, please watch out for their safety
